140311 - Making Stairs and Trees and Leaves

With the puppets essentially done by this point we began work on the sets themselves.

Tom had designed out how the mans flat was going to look, before and after the injection of some cash.

The key feature of the room was a set of stais, that wouldn't be walked on or used so could be made very quickly from blocks of wood.

Tom marked up the stairs and between us we cut the pieces of wood to length and began putting them together.

Each step was held together with a single screw and simple 90degree bracket, this ensured that they were quick and easy to put together and also take apart if need be.

Once all the steps were made, the sides were then fitted. This were simply screwed into the stairs using a few screws, again making the process, quick, simple and easy to take apart if need be.

While we were getting on with that Alex and May were making lots of leaves and branches for the trees.

The branches were made from twists of brown paper coated wire, varying the thickness between 4 and 12 strands of wire, depending on the thickness of the branches.

The leaves were made using 2 paper punches, the give us a combination of large and small leaves to give us a bit of variation.

Each leaf is then paintstaking glued one at a time to the branches. We have been doing this task between us, but the main person working on the branches is May, she has the fun task of gluing the leaves on.
